- SCLEROTHERAPY: Sclerotherapy is a hand rejuvenation technique that is ideally suited to treat blood vessels that are greater than 3 millimeters in diameter. During this quick, outpatient procedure, a micro-needle is used to inject a solution into the vein, causing it to blanch (lighten and turn white) and gradually disappear. There is no downtime and little (if any) discomfort associated with this treatment.
- CHEMICAL PEELS: Chemical peels are excellent corrective treatments for patients seeking to minimize the appearance of discoloration, sun damage, wrinkles/fine lines, and/or irregular pigmentation on the hands. Although chemical peels come in different strengths (superficial, medium, and deep), because the skin on the hands is very delicate, superficial chemical peels tend to be the best option for this area of the body.
During the chemical peel treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the hands with a sponge, brush, cotton pad, or swab. When the meticulously formulated chemical solution is applied to the skin on the hands, tissue transparency is decreased and the visibility of age spots (skin-darkening, hyperpigmentation) is significantly reduced. Dr. Yalif will closely observe any changes in the appearance of your skin in order to determine how long to leave the solution on your hands. Because of the gentle nature of the superficial peel, no after-peel ointment or covering is necessary, and patients can expect little (if any) post-treatment downtime.
- LASER RESURFACING: laser resurfacing treatments for the hands utilize short bursts of high-intensity laser light energy to gently exfoliate the keratinized (dead) or unhealthy skin cells on the surface of the hands, thereby improving the appearance of unsightly veins and dark “age” spots. This treatment is an optimal choice for patients seeking to improve the appearance of wrinkled, aging, and/or sun-damaged skin. As your skin heals, you will notice that the formerly dull, wrinkled skin on your hands is replaced with smooth, healthy, younger-looking skin.
- IPL (INTENSE PULSED LIGHT): Although there are a number of OTC (over the counter) products claiming to improve the appearance of darkened patches of skin (hyperpigmentation), in many cases, the elimination of dark spots requires a more intensive solution, such as an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment. IPL treatments target and break down excess pigment to minimize the appearance of hyperpigmentation (melasma, ‘age spots,’ ‘liver spots,’ skin-darkening). During your IPL treatment, the hand piece will be placed directly over the treatment area; light waves will be emitted, and after a series of treatments, you should notice a significant reduction in the discoloration or of your hands. This is a non-invasive treatment with a recovery similar to that of a mild sunburn.
